i don't think i like the idea of answering old, old questions. i like to feel i'm helping someone. if a question is two years old i would hope things would be overcome by events, and people not be stuck in the past.

i know that was not a question. so How do you feel about this?
I wrote AP regarding this issue and I am posting their answer. This makes absolutely no sense.
1. Why would we answer questions from people who's accounts have been long closed, and if already answered years ago, how does AP make the decision? Also, if it's already answered, why would anyone even want to revisit ancient history?
2. Is this an effort to make the site appear to be more popular and busier than it is? What would be accomplished by this?
The New Question listing shows all questions ordered by ask date. Some
of these questions may or may not be answered already.
If you want to filter out the answered questions, you can always select
the "Open" questions from the Show dropdown list.
I agree! And why are they under recently active? Did you notice that the questions never go to discovery? And, even after you choose best answer, people can still answer them? I need a pill!
I feel the same. I'm wondering why they're listed under New Questions?? Like you said, these people have already been helped or advised. I don't know why we were given this option, but it's senseless and counterproductive. These users are long gone, so what feedback would they give us now? Ahh...the wonders of the New AP!
Questions where a best answer has been selected is still open for answers. The idea is to give people the opportunity to contribute to the question so that it builds up more answers. Answerers who answer questions after the question has expired won't be able to earn the best answer reward but they will be making a contribution that will be made available to other users - Askpedia
