Hacking for negative purpose mostly and cracking is for positive purpose mostly.

Hmmm... good question.

I think the difference is:

Hacking is more to bypass a system with out needing the password.

and Cracking is more to get into the system and retrieve the information such as a password.

But honestly i don't know that is just my honest guess.
