What do you think when there are children out there door knocking at night with no adult supervision, and not to mention the drugs or razor blades that get put in treats? Personally,I think it is down right dangerous.
i mean... it is extremely dangerous! i really do agree! i mean like... for me and my brothers, my parents would walk us door to door until i got to the age of, 13. it may have been pretty embarressing to have my parents walk with me in our neighborhood at age 12, but it did make halloween a lot safer! and when i come home from trick or treating, my parents would always check or candy. and we couldn't eat ANY candy until they had checked it. so for me, halloween is pretty safe. but some parents don't walk with their kids and don't check their candy either! thats just sad. i just hope this halloween is fun and safe for everyone! i really do!

I think Halloween and the activities in which they were intended are a great thing. What's sad is that stupid, uncaring parents let their kids roam wild out there and hope for the best. I can't imagine letting my kids run wild, in the dark, dressed in costume, knocking on people's doors and hoping they make it home safely at the end of the night. It would be super easy for a child to come up missing on Halloween. When a kid is screaming and crying about being taken away you could justify it that they're just not wanting to end the night and go home, whereas it could be some stranger taking off with an unattended child. As for the drugs and razor blades I think that's not a major concern. Of course I'd always inspect the candy to make sure it looked fine, was unopened, not homemade, etc... but I really don't think that people are into giving away free drugs in candy and/or killing kids with hidden razors.
Halloween can be a great holiday but I think too many parents take it as a night off for themselves and allow their kids to act like wild heathens. Also, me being the rag that I am, will not give candy to anyone not in costume, and will tell the parents and/or kids what I think if they ring my doorbell after 9p.m.
i think halloween is a very fun time of year when kids can dress up as scary creatures and get candy. Some people in other places celebrate a diffrent holiday. they celebrate the day of the dead. That holiday is about where people gather and they celebrate their loved ones that were very important to them that have passed away. Either way they still sound pretty fun. the day of the dead sounds a little sad though, yet i have a happy feeling too!!!
In 30 years as a health care provider, not once have I heard of any candy or treats coming through as having had pins, razor blades or other nasty stuff in them. Every hospital I have worked in had a program where parents could bring their kids candy in for X-Rays to see if there were any foreign objects in them.
The news is full of advice, days before Halloween, about trick or treat safety. This goes from costumes and masks that allow good visibility and safe materials to what are safe treats to accept and what to stay away from.
As a result of all the hype, lots of parents are opting for alternatives to traditional trick or treating. They are having parties at home to have fun and keep the kids off the streets. I, personally, have seen a dramatic downward trend in the number of kids I've seen coming to my door over the years.
However, that doesn't mean that there aren't some whack jobs out there that get their kicks out of trying to hurt kids. Parents that let their kids run wild on a night when virtually anyone could grab them, should be punished. Children under high school age should be supervised at all times. When they are "too old" for a parent to be actually hanging with them as they go door to door, the parent should stand away, but be close enough to supervise. High school kids should go in groups and stay in that group.
If you don't want trick or treaters at your door, or are done for the night, turn out your porch light and let everyone know that you are done in order to keep kids from ringing the doorbell later.
I've seen a dramatic change in the number of T-O-T myself. There are also a couple of options here to do instead of the traditional T-O-T'ing and that's what we'll be doing. As for the turn off your lights... some freaks just don't get it. They're probably the young kids without adults to show them the way and don't know any better. Ugh. This year we'll be gone! Sorry kids.
My grandchildren go trick-or-treating with their parents, who also check their treats. I have never heard of razor blades and drugs in candy!! That is spooky!!!! I thought parents checked for choking hazards - that's it!
i have heard the razor blade thing is an urban myth. someone would have to be a complete idiot to do that. not that there are not complete idiots but i don't think that is of real concern.
