I am now home handicapped with a syncope situation. Numbness of the feet. I also had been debilitated many years ago by head injuries. I was severely head injured...and my head injury not picked up for many years. I live with amnesia. In May of this year I had passed out. I was taken to a hospital here in the Bronx where upon release it was suggested I be taken to Cornell Medical Center...where I thought I would be admitted as I lay prone on a stretcher. I sent my friend home. At 4AM. four security guards put me in the street. When I finally made it back home I passed out again. Ambulance took me to a hospital nearby. Then a nursing service picked up. Came to my house. Offered me services. Everything smooth until I was not able to make it to the doctors. Was not given access-a-ride. Was not given home care. Not able to make it to my doctor...or any doctor...what they hell do I do. Today the nurse came to my house and told me I would be dropped from the service...what do I do?...

I would contact social services and explain your situtation. They should be able to help you especially with your disabilities. If not contact an attorney

My heart goes out to you ninuccio. I worked with home health agencies and hospice for many years and this certainly isn't an uncommon story. I begged for social workers and case management people from the state and federal government to search for programs and monies to keep people in their homes as long as possible. I worked for hours on research to present that showed it would cost less for care, the client would recieve better care and remain more independent, etc., etc., etc. I was told in Pa. and N.J. that there were no monies, facilities or programs to meet the clients in home needs cost effectively unless they were institutionalized. That was over a decade ago, and things haven't changed much. But, sometimes a new program does arise that can help finance and supply in home care, so keep asking for assistance. If you are on medicare or medicaid in NY, ask your case manager to help you persue avenues that others may have missed. Ask for an appointment with a senior/managerial social worker who may be more up to date and experienced in finding funding and services. here is the address for Transportation Resources Intra-county for Phys. Handicapped. 50 Sanatorium Road, Building T Pomona NY phone 845-364-8747. Good luck, good health and God Bless You.
