My heart goes out to you ninuccio. I worked with home health agencies and hospice for many years and this certainly isn't an uncommon story. I begged for social workers and case management people from the state and federal government to search for programs and monies to keep people in their homes as long as possible. I worked for hours on research to present that showed it would cost less for care, the client would recieve better care and remain more independent, etc., etc., etc. I was told in Pa. and N.J. that there were no monies, facilities or programs to meet the clients in home needs cost effectively unless they were institutionalized. That was over a decade ago, and things haven't changed much. But, sometimes a new program does arise that can help finance and supply in home care, so keep asking for assistance. If you are on medicare or medicaid in NY, ask your case manager to help you persue avenues that others may have missed.
