thanksgiving is coming up. do you have a secret recipe for the ultimate turkey?
what about those side dishes. do you take a dish to the in-laws..
tell us all about it..
i am a big turkey fan.. love to cook the bird.. with the sales on turkey around this time of year i get three. one to cook on thanksgiving and two to go into the freezer. if i had the space i would buy more. the best part about cooking the turkey is the left overs.
have any good tips on that?
I always buy frozen as there is less risk of contamination. And stuff it with heaps of breadcrumbs, onion, egg and mixed herbs. As it is hot here we go for salads rather than all the hot veg.Cous cous, home made potato salad, baby beetroots, snow peas, avacado salad etc..Leftovers make a beautiful pie or soup, sandwiches for lunch at school or work with salad and mayo on them.
it's funny that you say that about the frozen because i do the same. i see all the fresh
turkeys and wonder how long they have been sitting around. if they are frozen you know they will last up to 6 months.. living in southern California gives us the opportunity to have just about any fresh fruits and veggies almost all season long.. we get so spoiled..

I used to always buy a fresh Turkey for better flavour. The left overs? Turkey curry, Turkey sandwiches with pickle, Turkey Soup.. and by then you will be sick of Turkey!
OK. this is the second time curry has come up.i have never tried curry unless it was in Indian cuisine. now you really have me
wondering.my daughter could not wait for my turkey soup. thick, more like a stew.
Everybody loves my mother's cranberry chutney recipe. I make glazed carrots that go over big. Jim's sister makes the green bean casserole. His sister in law makes the sweet potatoes with the marshmallows on top. Fresh mashed potatoes are a must. I make fresh bread. Pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert followed by an Alka Seltzer chaser.
