There are different qualities of terracotta and I have had some good ones and some cheap ones.I have tried glazing with tile sealer but they still don't last long at all.Do yours last or do you go for another type of product?
they are great for succulents and cacti, they provide aeration for the roots, and in general are much more attractive than common plastic pots. breakage can be a problem. don't move them around, and when you buy them look for hairline cracks.
Unglazed terra cotta is more for decorative purposes because though it's fired, it isn't waterproof - that's why it falls apart under moist conditions. When you glaze terra cotta pots, they have to be refired in a kiln in order to be more durable. You can buy terra cotta pots lined with galvanized tin, which last a lot longer.
