Last night my 8yr. old niece was fine. She had just returned from a school play a few hrs.earlier & seemed fine. She began losing her balance, started vomiting, past out, stopped breathing, turned blue. Her father did CPR while 911 was in route.Father got her breathing again.took ambulance 20min. to arrive(they live in rural area). For short time she had no vitals. She was taken to hospital where she regained vitals & seemed to act normal again. They gave no diagnosis, sent her home & said if it happens again they will try to diagnose. This just happened last night.the hospital is small & not well equipped. What could cause these symptoms?
Thank God she's OK. That had to be the worst day of her father's life!
It's really hard to tell just what caused this...she really needs to see her pediatrician as soon as possible. To simply dismiss this and not determine the cause is unacceptable. There could be a number of reasons for this, and until it is determined, this could happen again. Children simply don't just vomit, pass out and stop breathing.
I am sorry but I cannot answer your question and I hope there is someone that can give you a good answer. But I think she needs to have tests done as it doesn't sound right and she could have died. The hospital doesn't sound too good and you may have to travel to get tests done.If it were me. I would have her at the doctor and demanding for tests to be done. I hope she is OK.

I certainly hope they did either a CAT scan or an MRI of her brain. My initial suspicion is of some type of lesion affecting her brain stem (medulla oblongata). I would see a neurologist at once because she may not be so lucky the next time. Thank goodness she is okay now!
Did anyone ask if she had hit her head at any time during the day. Her symptoms sound like a head trauma may have occurred. Regardless of her answer, she still needs a neuolgical work up to identify any underlying causes that may respond to treatment. Good luck and good health.
