I'd rather have good fortune because fame comes and goes, there's no guarantee of it lasting. Good fortune, which to me means not only having enough money to live a great lifestyle, but health, new friends and experiences, having my family around me, feeling loved and having peace of mind. That's what Good Fortune means to me, along with bettering myself as a person as I grow and learn. With fame, you have no privacy, you can't even go out for a walk without reporters taking your picture and invading your privacy. No thanks. People are famous for different things besides being a celebrity anyway...like being famous for curing a disease or having the courage to try to change the world and make it a better place. That kind of fame is hard to come by, and the great people that earn that fame do so through their own brilliance anyway, not necessarily for fame and money, see what I mean? Good fortune is a blessing, and not to be taken for granted. I'd choose that over fame any day.
To me, fame is something that attention seekers both wish and live for. I have no desire for fame. I enjoy my privacy and anonymity. It permits me to go about my life the way I wish to without the outside world getting in the way any more than necessary.
I would prefer good fortune. Good fortune would permit me to live a solid life with a minimum of bad circumstances causing pain and hardship. It is impossible to avoid these things, but keeping them to a minimum is preferable. Good fortune would permit me to take care of myself and my family.
Is fame and fortune one and the same? Not necessarily. One can be famous and yet have nothing but bad things happen to them. One can be a simple anonymous person, but with good fortune, can live a good life.
I'd rather have fame. I'd like to be famous for curing some awful disease or writing a best-selling novel. Neither is likely to happen, but I can dream!
Neither. Fame is the curse of the Narcissist, anonimity the reward of the Humble.
As to good fortune, I would rather have it said of me, 'he worked for everything he has,' rather than 'he lucked into his success.'
I am most comfortable around close friends, good friends. I do not need everyone to know my name or to always be in the company of a large group. I simply enjoy my close friends. Therefore, I prefer Good Fortune.
Also, I am more concerned with my ability to reach success and potential in life. I want to be able to support myself with no problem and enjoy what life has to offer. For me, that is good fortune. I am not concerned, at all, with fame.
