Every once in a while, These televison charity appeals comes onto our screens. I am watching BBC Children in Need at the moment, even though it's only the the UK, I'm sure simlair events are held around the world. Another big event here is called Comic Relief, often when celebrities do funny things to raise money and on the night millions of pounds are raised.
Do you ever watch these one night events that happen annually? Have you ever done any fundraising? Would you ever pick up your phone and donate?
Iv Listened to one on the radio called Kidds kids. Its was for a really good cause and i would have donated but i am absoultly broke. Next year i do plan on contributing. Its for kids with disabilites, they take them and thier family to Walt Disney world in florida for four days i think and really just focus on them.
I have helped with alot of school fundraisers in my past.
The other night we had a chili feed for our Junior class to raise money for prom. As of right now Im selling candles for National Honor Society.
I've worked the phones for telethons like this. I think programs like this are wonderful. Even in the difficult times we are experiencing now, we can pry our wallets and our hearts open and find something to give.
Most of the calls I fielded were for small donations, but lots of small donations make a lot of money. It was the thought that counted on those donations, and some very deserving people benefitted from humble generosity.
I've seen the Comic Relief one's that have been running for years here in the states. Robin Williams, Whoopie Goldberg and other funny celebs have been hosting it for a long time, off and on. I don't donate to this specific one, but I do donate to a t.v. charity, a local one, that airs in early December and benefits kids and families that have no food, clothing or shelter all year long. I know it's trustworthy and I'm only too glad to pick up the phone and donate to this great organization! It's actually part of our Christmas here. No family should go without the basic needs, and it's great learning that the children of these families actually received presents under their tree. Personally, I've done fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetic Association, and the Cancer Society. I just wish I could do more. I think if everyone donates where they can, and each one of us gives our time to a cause that's special to us and can add more money to research into fighting disease and poverty, then we're on the road to seeing breakthroughs.
