Dennis, you picked one of my all time favorite courtroom comedies!! I love the scene where Joe Pesci says "These two Yoots." and the Judge says to him "What exactly, Sir, is a Yoot?"...Man, I was on the floor! He couldn't say Youths with his thick New York accent! Marissa Tomei was some sexy as the girlfriend...love this movie.
how about the scene when Joe is at the cabin and Marissa
is stamping her little foot saying her biological clock is ticking
hilarious.. yeah,,Marissa is definitely a looker..
Great choice, Bruce. I read the novel by Scott Turrow, and the movie with Harrison Ford was just as good. I agree, the twist ending was spectacular: it was his wife who killed his mistress! That movie is a classic!
True Believer, the 1989 movie starring James Woods as Edward"Eddie" Dodd? Modeled after famed civil rights lawyer Tony Serra? I saw it years and years ago, and James Woods did give a powerhouse performance. Is this the man you're referring to as the defense lawyer where you were a juror? What was it, a murder trial? Very interesting, Joe!
no my case was a burglary, by two prostitutes, of a couple from the Midwest, a watch was found in ones vaXXXX. in court it was in a tube marked BIO-HAZARD it looked like a dildo. it was found during a strip search, by a real butch woman cop. Tony Serra was great.
A watch was found in one of the prostitutes vag##a???!! LMAO! They put it in a dildo shaped tube marked BIO-HAZARD!! I think it would classify...think of where it came from. That's a jury I'd liked to have been on. I take it Serra won the case and the two hooker thieves were found guilty of possession of stolen merchandise? That'd make a hell of a movie, too.
Serra lost the case, well part of it, one skipped bail the other went to jail. he's a defense lawyer! and we had a choice of burglary or possession of stolen property, we went for the lesser, possession.
Oh well, can't win 'em all. Still, must've been quite the experience. Between jury duty and being a protestor, you've had some outstanding moments in your life, Joe.
Inherit the Wind about the Scopes monkey trial is my vote. There is great acting by great actors and the issue is still relevant today. That makes it important.
That's one of my Mom's favorite films, Richard. I recall seeing the original with Spencer Tracy, then the 1999 remake with George C. Scott. Very controversial subject matter for the 1925 trial. One teacher who dared to teach the Darwinian theory to his students...it was an amazing film. Excellent choice! It is timeless, as you say.
Hey, the classic one liner from old Jack! I love this movie...saw it three times. Even Tom Cruise was bearable! This movie has a great plot and a top knotch cast, MB. Great choice! They nailed Jack in the end...wasn't that brilliant?
Wow! Did you know that Kramer vs Kramer was one of the first courtroom movies I ever watched, Heather? I loved Meryl Streep and Dustan Hoffman in this movie about how divorce can teach a man to become a parent. The ending, where Meryl's character gave the boy back to Dustin was a tearjerker. Excellent choice! I haven't seen Legally Blonde yet, but I love Reese Witherspoon and I'll check it out some day.
There's 2 of them, 'Legally Blonde 2, very amusing! Yes I think Kramer v Kramer was Brilliant, and Oh how I cried! I cry at happy and sad, doesn't take much! There was another film with Merryl Streep, came out about 14 or so years ago, The Bridges of Maddison County.. Oh the tears flowed.. a Brilliant movie, was in Chicago at the time I saw it, in a neighbours house, we were all in tears!!!!
I saw the Bridges of Madison County. Clint Eastwood co-starred in that one. Whoa! Another great Meryl film. I think I've seen most of her films. Sophie's Choice...excellent! You're like me, I cry at happy endings and sad endings. What's up with that? Ever see Terms of Endearment or The Notebook? We rent them over and over for "SOB NIGHT"!! Oh, there's so many great ones out there!
The Notebook is excellent. Rent it, you'll love the story and Gena Rowlands and James Garner are outstanding, as are all the actors. Keep the kleenex handy, lol!
I actually haven't seen Erin Brockavich. I know Julia won the Oscar for her role, and that it's a true story. I'm going to rent that sometime...I like true stories, even better when there are great courtroom scenes. Thanks, now I have a good movie to look forward to!
Well, I'm glad you've never been in jail or a courtroom. Do you have a favorite movie about a courtroom, Sky? Or do you find them too boring? You'd like Kramer vs. Kramer, it's really a great movie.
Oh, man, did you pick a brilliant movie! I read the John Grisham novel A Time to Kill, then saw the film a few years later. You're so right about it depicting the racial prejudice of the time. Damn good acting by all in this movie, even Sandra Bullock. I watch all the John Grisham movies when they come out. He's a great writer.
The Accused, with Jodi Foster and Kelly McGillis. I liked the concept that someone with as spotty a background as Jodi Foster's character has can still find justice in an unjust world. Jodi did an amazing job in this movie, particularly in the scene where she was accosted.
Today i watched "My sister's keeper"
It was so sad, it will make you cry through the entire movie.
The story line can be very controversal to some people.
To me, you should have the right to your own body no matter what age you are.
Its about a 11 yr old girl concieved to be a donor for her leukimia-stricken sister, but who finally demands the right to control her own body. This act of free will may tear their family apart. or, it may be the first step to a triuphant realization of the devotion, dignity, and what it means to be a family.
I heard "My Sister's Keeper" was a great movie. Actually, it's coming up on one of the movie channels next week. The way you describe the plot, it sounds like something I'd like to see. I like controversial subject matter. I agree, everyone should have the right to their own body, regardless of age. I'll check this movie out for sure. Thanks for the great information!!
