Find the common denominator (a number that each denominator is divided by evenly. In this problem that is 10 so you only have to change 8/5 to tenths. To do this you divide 10 by 5 and get 2. then multiply that by the numerator 8. then your equation looks like this
16/10 + 9/10 Add the numerators and you get 25, so the fraction is
25/10 But the numerator is larger than the denominator, so reduce
the fraction. ( this line / always means "divided by") so
2 5/10 But there is one more step. You need to find the lowest
denominator. You can do that. Find a number that divides into
both 5 and 10 evenly and you have the correct answer. Keep
studying. It will get easier. One nice thing about math is once
you learn the rules, they NEVER change.


math is boring, i could make up my own problem and solution, yet what fun is there in that. besides there is only 10 basic numbers that are just added onto or subtracted from to make other numbers. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 thats it.....words offer unlimited ways to describe and express.
