What do you do if your house is messy and company is coming over in just about 5 or so minutes?
Some examples:
bed unmade
children's toys
dirty dishes
dirty clothes
messy floor
trash can full
ash trays filled with butts and ashes (if you smoke)
smelly dog you were getting ready to give a bath
Keep a small laundry basket in the corner of each room. Quickly throw all things that DO NOT belong in that room into the basket. Gather each of the laundry baskets and put them in a bedroom and close the door. If you have time before guests arrive, sort through the baskets and return items to thier proper location.
If you have a sink full of dirty dishes, cover them with a hand towel, then place a cutting board on top. If you don't have a large one, buy one.
You have to take the garbage out, there's really no other way to eliminate that problem.
Sprinkle baking powder on the dog and brush him off with a towel. The baking powder will absorb the odor until Fido gets a bath.
Pull the comforter up over the sheets, even if you haven't made the beds. No one will know the sheets are in disarray underneath.
Keep a coffee can in the living room, hidden, where you can quickly empty ash trays and store the buts until the guests have left and you can empty it.
I would throw the clothes on my bed that was unmade, kill two birds with one stone.Company usally does not go in your room anyway. The dirty dishes I'd put in the stove oven to hide them.Throw the butts in the garbage and take it outside, so it is not stinky. The dog would go outside and I'd blame the messy toys on the kids.
I suggest you dress up. Just before your guests go in, tell them that there has been an electricity shut down in your apartment. Then bring them to the nearest bar or restaurant. Saves you all the effort of cleaning up the mess before your guests came and the mess after they left.
1. bed unmade: unless youre getting it on with them, they prob arent gonna go in there.
2. childrens toys, play with them! duh. thats an easy one.
3. dirty dishes: keep them in the sink, or just stuff em in the dishwasher.
4. messy floor: kick everything under the couch or anything that conceal things.
if its food on the floor, let your smelly dog in the room and he'll take care of it.
5. trash can full: that takes two secs.
6. ash tray filled with butts and ashes. dump it out. and spray with fabreeze.
7. smelly dog, let him outside. if you cant do that, dump shampoo on him and give him a quick shower.

finally, who cares, dont worry too much about what people think. they wont think too much of it if you dont either. just get them 2 boozed up to notice. jk
1. Stay outside and when they come over take them outside for dinner.
2. Clean like crazy.
- Put stuff which you can't manage to keep in the proper place at that time in some cupboard you know you will never open.
- Remember, keeping the floor clean is the most important part
- You can take the trash can out even after they come, nothing wrong with that.
- Don't give your dog a full bath. Just shower him with water a bit, and wipe him off clean. Put some scent on him to make the smell disappear :P
- Put all clothes in a basket, that doesn't take more than a minute.
- Leave the toys for later
My main point in the end is that your guests will understand if you are having difficulties and there is nothing wrong with cleaning while they are there. Some people are always willing to help out and they know that people are busy nowadays.
Invite my company to eat out and say my house is getting fumigated so we cant be inside. In the meantime get ready (that means pretty) and receive them with a beautiful smile.
