The initial healing period typically takes from one to two weeks, gum tissue takes about 3-4 weeks to heal and complete healing of the bone can take about 6-8 months.

If you have pain, you need to see your dentist. You may have lost a blood clot or infection may have set in.

Lots of things may slow healing. Smoking slows the process and some general diseases, like diabetes, do also.
You might promote healing by rinsing with warm salt water (1 tablespoon salt in 8oz of warm water) after meals or even four times a day. Rinsing removes food particles and debris from the socket to help promote healing.
Keep the area clean by brushing.
