it is important to have a holistic approach to managing pain and discomfort as this is looking the the situation as a whole, and how the ways of managing pain and discomfort could have an impact on the persons life altogether.

Using a holistic approach is important because it gets to the root of the problem, the reason you're having pain to begin with. Often times the real reason we experience pain is because of something going on in a completely different part or system of the body. Looking at the whole picture instead of just the symptom allows you to nip it in the bud. You could take pain pills to dull out the symptom, or you could figure out what's causing the pain to begin with, and resolve the real issue. The number one best thing I have ever found for pain is a consistent yoga practice. Nothing but deep breathing, movement, and peace of mind. Does wonders!
