There is so much involved here, that it could fill a book. In fact, it does! Policy and procedure is set up in all health care environments that deal with everything from sterilizing surgical instruments, cleaning patient rooms, hand washing, germicidal cleansers, sterile technique and the use of personal pretective devices (gloves, masks and gowns). Here is a link that can help you find the specific answer you are looking for.

Morrie just answered a similar question. This is not a question that can be described within the context of space or format of this forum. Your question is very broad and so you need to narrow it down to which types of infection.

Each state has standards that can be accessed at website for the Department of Health and Professional standards for that state. To drill down a bit more, if you know exactly what environment your are talking about as far as procedures and sytems, it should be a simple google search to find the answer.
