There are many stereotypes about different groups of people. Weather it is based on racial group, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity by getting to know people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicity helps remove negative stereotypes. This, I believe, prevents discrimination because when you associate with people of different groups you realize they are not so different than you.

Companies usually have a manual that deals with this. They also sponsor lectures or programs for the employees so they will comply with the law.
Not doing this leaves them more open to lawsuits based on discrimination.
