discuss why appointment scheduling is essential in the medical office. What would happen if no one were in charge of scheduling appointments? What responsibilities accompany the appointment scheduling process?

Appointment scheduling helps to ensure that patients are seen in a timely manner and the doctor has sufficient time to spend with each patient to discuss their medical problems. [ If there was nobody in charge of scheduling appointments there would likely be patients waiting in the waiting room and not even seen that day.

Apparently, some medical office put me in charge of scheduling their appointments by giving out a business card with my number on it. This was before the internet. I went down to the office, and got one of their cards, then told the office manager the problem. She let me know that they would continue to give out the errant cards, as they had already paid for them. (?)

So I let her know that I'd book everyone for Wednesday at 3. Somehow, they eventually found a way to stop giving out the cards.

If no one schedules, (or if I do), patients show up unexpectedly. It's not a good thing.
