Declaration of Independence? Holiday weekend? Fireworks? Patriotism? Picnics? Parades? What does this day really mean to Americans?

one word - FREEDOM.

You must not be tired of my talking about it.
Today, we think about what Freedom means to us. Whether its the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech or any other freedom you exercise, leave our complaints about our societal woes behind for one day and be happy and Thankful that we can express them freely! The U.S. may not be a "Perfect Union", but we are a great work in progress with true potential!

Now we go grill up some burgers and dogs and enjoy our day with family and friends, maybe watch the parade with some Sousa marches and then we go to watch some big bangs!

Having FUN!
...not that American's need an excuse and they know how to have it!
It celebrates their Independance and a treaty was signed in Philadelphia - I went there and into the place where it was signed, if i'm right.. by President Johnson?? And i've been in Indiana on Independance day and watched the processions and the marches, i'd go back right this second for a taste of all their BBQ's, wonder if wiggling my nose will work for me if i try hard enough?

4th of July means BLOWING STUFF UP! Now that I got the kid in me out there, there's also a more personal significance to the 4th that takes some of the fun out of the explosions. My mother-in-law's birthday is on the 4th, and she passed last year. We were pretty close, so making things go boom this year just didn't do it for me. Next year I'll make up for it with an explosive extravaganza(costing me heavily I'm sure)!

the fourth of july is a day, just as is the fifth and sixth. on that particular day we, in this country celebrate our independence from the british rule, which ended with our winning of the revolutionary war.
what would be a more fun question, which many of us already ask ourselves, is what is independence? more so than what does it mean to us, it should mean everything, but more aptly what is it? and does a definition mean an experience of it?

To me the 4th of July means the day we got our independence and i am absolutley proud to be apart of celebrating that day.
