I have a full metal jacket (4 stents in one artery) and was told I would need bi-pass surgery if I have another incident in the same artery.
I was offered a drug called Imdur (an all day nitro drug) that controls
chest pains. I was told that a long time study showed using the drug therapy (Imdur) had the same incident of death compared to having bi-pass surgery or stents placement. My question is...has anyone tried this drug therapy and how do I know when the chest pain is a warning to a heart attack or my arteries contracting. At this point, I have had no damage to the heart muscle. I am wondering if the Imdur is a bandaid to a more potential problem.
Imdur is used to relax, and therefore dilate the arteries that feed the heart. this ensures that more oxygen rich blood will arrive and keep the heart muscle healthier. It is also used to prevent angina pain and lower blood pressure. It has a number of side effects associated with it's use but can improve heart health significantly. The choice is yours. Read the info on the web and talk with your doctor to give yourself the best info for your final decision. Good luck and good health.
