Ok, Im getting a hamster soon, But it will be staying at my boyfriends house as my mum don't like caged animals, my boyfriends room is very hot all the time (even when the heating isnt on and the windows are open) I dont want my hamster to die from being over heated does anyone no how to cool down the room without paying a silly amount of money for it, also my boyfriend and also me and his mates smoke in his room, will this kill my hamster? And is there any way of lowering the change of it dieing (as i will stop smoking in his room but i delt my boyfriend will as he is a heavy smoker) Thanks and has anyone got tips to keep him healthy and not dieing suddenly? Thanks :) x
Is there a cool, smoke-free place in the house where he can keep the hamster - the heat and smoke can make the hamster sick. If not, maybe you should think twice about getting a hamster right now.
There is no such thing as a habitat that is too big for your hamster. She will be spending a majority of her time in the cage, so it should be as big as possible. It should be safe, roomy, comfortable and interesting.
Hamsters are well-kept in a wire cage with a solid tray bottom, solid levels and a coated wire top. The cage should be a minimum of 2 square feet, with no more than half-inch of spacing between bars (hamsters can fit through larger gaps). Any levels in the cage should be solid, not wire. Wire levels can be made safe by covering them with mats available in pet supply stores, ceramic or vinyl tiles, cardboard (like cut cereal boxes) or other similar material.

i know that hamsters are so cute but do you think that you should really get this hamster? the fact of the hamster residing at your boyfrinds house makes the hamster yours in name only.the bf will be taking care of it and hopefully playing with it. you on the other hand will be the visitor. to have a pet is also taking responsibility for the thing and long distance relationships almost never work out. if things don't work out with the boyfriend then where is fluffy going to go? not to your house. your mom won't allow it. hamsters, if not handled regularly will get a little wild and then they turn into biters. i think you should act the adult and let this one go..sorry....
