What's a good way to discover new music?

Apart from listening to radio stations or watching MTV, how do you discover new and interesting musical artists?

I use Last.fm. It is awesome and I love it. I've been using it for months now and my music collection has definitely increased because of it.

"Last.fm is a service that keeps track of what music you listen to, and then produces a large number of features personalised to you.

You can use Last.fm to listen to music, find out about artists you may like, other people with similar music taste, gigs in your local area, charts and quilts for your personal site, as well as much more."

All you do is enter a group that you like and Last.fm will find other artists that have similar sounds to it.

For me, if I am are looking for "new" music, I usually just look at the top 10 songs in the iTunes store. That's usually what the "new" and popular songs are at the moment.

I agree with Jess. I was going to say LastFM. I love that site. I have been using it for about a year and a half and it's great. I also love songcry. It's a forum where you can post music you like, and see other posts from other users. You need to register, but it's free and well worth it. IMEMM is also good to look up songs and preview 30 second clips.
