I need to buy a cellphone! My current cellphone is near the end of the two year commitment. Instead of extending the contract, I'm thinking of rewarding myself with a new cellphone.

I'm not a big gadget person but I do want a cellphone that's small yet sturdy and has a decent camera. My old cellphone was bulky and had a lousy camera. The new cellphone has to get decent reception in the Palo Alto area.

Also, I don't want to change my phone number. Therefore, I'll need to actually buy a phone instead of getting a free phone with a two year commitment.

Any thoughts?

I am currently using Verizon and have had no problems with it. The only downside of Verizon is that it's a little more expensive than the other carriers out there. Their phones are also uglier (IMO).

If you are changing carriers, I think you still qualify for a new phone with a new contract, while still keeping your old number. If you want to just buy your own phone, Craigslist and eBay usually have better deals.

Also, a little known fact about most carriers is that they offer discounts for employees of many companies. You can just call up a CSR and ask if your compnay qualifies for a 5-20% discount.
