I'm curious on what I should be when I grow up. I'm already in college (so 4/5's or 9/10's of the way there) and I'm currently a CS (computer science) major. I love technology, but more imporantly I'm want to develop or build new things, something I'm not quite sure I would be able to fully achieve with a CS major.
By build/develop new things I mean something that isn't involved with computing. Kind of like the people at microsoft who built the new surface computer.
So what I'm hoping to have is your opinion on what major this sounds like, and possibly your own opinion of this major whether it is in usefullness, job market, what ever.
What you want is an engineering degree. Lots of different kinds, Check out what appeals to you.
I became a dentist because I liked to create things and I wanted some art involved as well as the knowledge.
It is anybody's guess as what will be in demand in the future. I think you are all right with what you are in, but other degrees might be a little more flexible. Some of these engineering degrees are hard, so you should be a good student.
Combine computers with research and developement. Every large industry has that department. And Richard is right, engineering is a great secondary degree because of the great number of specialties.
Maybe, you should shift to a major in Computer Engineering. Unlike Computer Science which is more on the software side, Computer Engineering is on the hardware side, which may involve creating artificial intelligence, robotics & the like.
Now, if you really want to go into something that doesn't involve computers, maybe you can shift to Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
Well, all of these will require a lot of brainwork and real interest in math & physics. So, whatever your decision may be, good luck!
