We have an old TV that's pretty much dead. It does show a picture but it's hazy and the speakers make a buzzing sound.

It's too large to throw away in our regular trashcans. How else can we get rid of it?

One thing to consider is the fact that the TV's tube contains alot of lead and other toxic heavy metals. While it may be legal to throw into the town dump,
the environmentally conscious thing would be to take it to a E-waste recycle
place.

GreenCitizen.com has locations close to Palo Alto, and their fees are quite
reasonable. I send all my company's E-waste there.

St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Los Altos is holding a free E-Waste drive
and they may take your TV for free. The drive will be held on Sat Nov 10 2007
which is the coming weekend! The web site is: www.stnickcc.org, follow the link that says "E-Waste" on the home page.

You might call 1-800-get junk to see if they service your area. But I wouldn't do that.
You could call Goodwill industries or the Salvation Army. Free pickup.
Some places have a local dump. Some you have to call. In my town the dump is free and they take TVs, but the countryside is still littered with TVs that people have dumped. I wouldn't do that.
You might call a local TV dealer. They might want it for parts or know what to do with it.
In my small town I know who to call to haul stuff away. You might have to ask your neighbors who does this at a reasonable price, or look in the phone book and take potluck.
This is a harder question to answer that I thought it would be.

1. Via your township's BULK removal.

2. Sell to a local tv repair store for parts.

Good Luck.

It depends on where you live. There is a no-charge listing service called craig's list ( craigslist.com ) where you can list almost anything for sale. Just list it in your city and tell them it is free, how it works, and someone will probably pick it up.
