What is the best "green" way to purchase feminine protection products such as pads or tampons? Most of these products contain plastics and synthetic fibers that are not biodegradable.
The natural marketplace is trying to ease the flow of environmental damage by offering products that are friendly to both the body and the environment. Jade and Pearl sea sponge tampons, for example, are an all-natural alternative to cotton tampons. Sponge tampons last approximately six months before they need to be replaced and are 100-percent biodegradable. Supplied via GladRags, the sponges are easy to clean and can be refreshed using a bevy of natural cleaners.
It is a problem all the way around, isn't it, both for the heath of the woman and the health of the nation and world. It is worse in this situation because new products are introduced with hype and old ones go away and a person often doesn't know until they read news reports of women having trouble with new products if they are lucky enough to hear about them.
These days we have the internet and we can Google reviews for individual products. Whether they are trustworthy of not is another problem. I Googled this and almost always leave documentation with my answers. In this case I do not have a source that I trust for effectiveness.
I use Consumer Reports for things like soaps, etc. because they are pretty good about taking things like being green into consideration along with other things that have to be considered also. That works here also. The local library is my source for the reports. That is the best and safest way I know.
An organic label is a help, but that is not infallible.
