Do you think a person can make a living prospecting for gold with the price of gold today and by selling nuggets above the raw gold's value?

I have panned for gold a few times while camping and was talking to another person using a sluth box and a large hose to dredge the bottom of the river. He was telling me that you don't get much but about an ounce a year. I guess this would depend on where you were. Most U.S. gold mines (a better way of getting gold) have shut down due to income from gold Vs. cost to run mining equipment. This is a fun hobbie and gets you outdoors too.

The value of gold is targetting it's magic figure of 1000$/ounce and today it was around 940 $/ounce which is historic level high.

The price of crude has jumped past 100$/barrel which has glittered the value of Gold.
