Anything with public access is going to stray from the intended purpose from time to time. Anything. Simply because people come in all kinds. Plain and simple.

I think alot of the math, biology, chemistry, etc. questions are coming from students having trouble with their homework. They're not learning anything if the answer is just given to them and they copy it. And I really don't think it would be a good thing if Askpedia got a reputation for giving out free homework answers. If it got big enough, there could be an issue amoung parents and teachers,etc.Though I don't think that it's even close to "big enough" at this time. Most of those questions go unanswered.

Those asking for relationship advice are just being normal. They are looking for help sorting out their thoughts and emotions which are in a frenzy at the time. There are just some circumstances in which people reach out for other people. When your in a situation in which you've never been in before it's natural to want to know how someone else who has handled it. Or hear testimonials from people who were in the same boat.

Children are getting on this site and asking questions.Children are full of questions that will never be deemed "professional".And they're allowed to as long as they are 13 years old with a parents permission.Askpedia policy.

The questions that irritate me are the people with this and this symptom and they want to know what is wrong with them. Quite frankly, Askpedia could hire a round the clock doctor and still then no doctor in their right mind would diagnose them over the computer. Let alone Askpedia users. Sometimes all you can do is tell them to see a doctor immediately. In addition, when I signed on to Askpedia I do not recall a disclaimer that Askpedia does not diagnose symptoms or anything similar to that. It may be in Askpedia's best interest to get one if they don't have one for sure I just don't recall one. Like I said before, people come in all kinds. Whose to say there wouldn't be someone out there who would trust an Askpedia opinion wholeheartedly and not see a real doctor. It could happen.

Askpedia already provides us with an option to flag answers, comments, and questions as inappropriate. I feel that this is sufficent for those questions that truly need to be removed. But, I think they're more looking for gross sexual content, illegal activity, stuff like that. I flagged a comment as inappropriate. They didn't remove it. It wasn't bad enough by their standards.

Finally, the somewhat stupid questions aren't hurting anyone or anything you don't have to answer them. You shouldn't let this bother you. Askpedia can never control peoples opinions, no one can.Neither cater to peoples opinions.Fact is, some people may think your questions are insignificant, too.What's Askpedia to do?

I do agree with you and this can only be checked by Askpedia Administrators. You and me can not play any role except to advise the administrator of the website ASKPEDIA.

The operator of this site maintains that a question with no answers will eventually be removed. I have never seen this happen simply because it has no answers and have no idea how this works.
Four of the questions you state are among the worst I have ever seen. Word and math puzzles have a place on this site. Sometimes I can't imagine why they are asked, but I can think of reasons for wanting to know the answer.
I am not touchy feely enough to be good at answering love questions, but they have a place on this site. There are people who love these types of questions and answers. Keep in mind that the age limit is only 13. They need questions they can answer. It takes all kinds.
Then there are the bad survey questions. I politely try to get the asker to ask these as regular questions. Sometimes they do. A few kinks still to work out, but I like having lots of questions. This is getting better.

Yes. It could be better. But there is the inappropriate question register. I am new also. looking for an answer to find out if someone can help me with my dogs health which is very urgent and I am having to answer a question before i can receive one. I'm very worried and i need an answer. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I want to provide some context as to our original thinking behind the design of Askpedia. When we first created Askpedia, question and answer quality was something that we considered very carefully. The position that we decided to take was that instead of a single authority providing editorial guidelines on what is appropriate/inappropriate, we wanted to let the community decide on what was acceptable within the community.

This is why we designed the site with flagging capabilities as well as compliments to encourage other users to have a voice in how Askpedia will grow as a community. When you flag a question as inappropriate, it gets noted in our system and it's reviewed to see if it's a violation of our terms of service. If enough people flag a question, answer, or comment as inappropriate, it then gets removed from the site and it gets reinstated only if we determine that there isn't malicious activity to remove a question or answer without good reason.

We hope that these features allow the community to participate in the moderation of Askpedia in a grass roots fashion, which we feel is superior to a centralized editorial driven system. There could be disagreements as to what is appropriate or inappropriate and a few inappropriate questions or answers might slip through, but in the long run, we feel that a community driven system will ensure the development and growth of a dynamic and vibrant community.

I've tried to explain our original thinking when we designed Askpedia. However, we're always trying to improve. If our original thinking no longer applies, we're ready to make the necessary changes. If you have any suggestions or features that you would like to see, please let us know!

Forums should be caterogrized by narrow subjects instead of broad subjects..ie. America News Today instead of News and Politics
