Holiday party, will you serve guests Alcohol, or just plain juice, water & soda?
Asked by: justthefacts from OCEAN GATE, NJ
I hear of, and have seen many DWI incidents in our area. As time goes on, things get worse and worse.

We will be hosting a few gatherings. Known friends and family.

Will the attendees be upset that I wont be serving liquor.... not even beer nor wine? I will make a very light Sangria, but thats about it. I dont want the responsibility.

What does your family do?

They will get over it if they are upset, which I doubt. Why would you want to be responsible for someone getting hurt? If they don't understand that, that is poor. You only care about their well being. I would perhaps have some egg nog or something light like you suggested and that's about it. If they find it a necessity to drink, they can do it on their time time and their own place. Especially with it being winter, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving people drinks and having them drive home either....

Thank you. I have selected your answer as best because my friends and family's well being is important to me. I wanted to know what everyone else was doing; but after your answer, I've concluded... "Who Cares?"
Thank you. I will serve my famous fruit & spice Sangria, along with some Home Made EggNog... now I just have to find a recipe for that!

We have done it with every combination of alcoholic spirits there is. Probably more times with no alcohol. Your guests will not be upset, but when there is alcohol the party is better. The way to do it is serve It early to get everybody in the party mood and then close it down. Just quietly remove it after everybody has been served and replace it with other things to drink. The only one who might object is Uncle Lush, but if he is driving that is too bad. If Grandmother Likesanip wants a bit more, you will have to use y...

Since my family is very large, we gather at a hall or hotel. My family have been doing this for last 10 years. Here are some things to be considered or recommended:

It might be that you or your close family members or friends don't drink, either for religious, health or safety reasons. Maybe some of those close to you are recovering alcoholics or just plain teetotalers, allergic to alco...

I would like to suggest you to serve something new which your family members don't drink at all or drink it once a while as they are not available in common.

Try to educate them with health drinks which might change their life as a whole and they may be thankful to you life long.

I've worked a few holiday party where they have served alcohol, people got drunk before supper and started fighting.
I say if you have lots of people at the party then no alcohol. If you have a few friends or family over then yes.
Work holiday party, well then that a whole different story...
