Why is it news that Ellen DeGeneres's cries about the dog?

This has been in the news for days. I don't understand why this is so important. The story doesn't bleed, so it shouldn't lead. She says she was wrong. Somebody at least try to explain it to me.

I don't think it's news, it's entertainment. We're all curious about other people's lives and we're even more curious about the lives of celebrities.
In Ellen's case, I haven't followed the news. I'm not a big fan of her show and I don't think she's that funny.
