Graphically, the square root of 2x-6 is a parabola that has been rotated clockwise 90 degrees, shifted down the x-axis 6 units away from the origin, and narrowed by a factor of two. Usually, only the positive roots are graphed, so you usually only get half of a parabola (the half above the x-axis), else the equation would not be a function.
