In Illinois, your auto insurance company can cancel your policy without your permission under various circumstances. One of them is if you have had your license suspended in the last 12 months.

Fortunately, there is a procedure that auto insurance companies have to follow when canceling your insurance. In cases where they're canceling your policy for reasons other than paying your insurance premiums, they have to give you 30 days notice before they actually cancel your policy. This gives you time to appeal the decision and also escalate it to the Director of Insurance if you don't get a fair chance at appealing the decision by the insurance company.

I'm not a lawyer but based on what I've read so far, it looks like you should have coverage. The only thing that the insurance company could use against you is the fact that you misrepresented your current drivers license status. However, if that was the case, they should have given you notice and canceled your insurance with at least 10-30 day notice.

You should also call the Illinois Department of Insurance Consumer Assistance Hotline at (866) 445-5364 and explain your situation to get their opinion.
