This phenomenon of maintaining temperature is called Greenhouse Effect.

The same thing applies to our earth also. As there is a ozone layer around the earth, it acts as a glass. Making the earth a greenhouse. When we pollute the air, it will absorb more heat that comes from sun and retains in the earth surface. More and more we pollute the air, the temperature increases causing the meltdown of accumulated icebergs in the pols. That in turn increases the volume of water in the sea. That in tern swallows all the seashores. As we know most of the major cities are build in the seashore, these cities will go under water.

Just imagine what is the situation if it happens.
