Whenever you post something on your blog, your blog software automatically pings these pinging service which then make that content available to others to discover your blog. Technorati actually owns their own pinging service and other blog search engines have their own pinging services.

The best thing to do is to tell your blog software to ping on of the meta pinging service. You ping these pinging services once and it will then go out and ping all the major pinging services. A good service is pingomatic.com.
