In most places your father can do what he is doing. As I see it he has made one big mistake and that is the fist fight. If you were hit, you should report this to child protective services in your area. That is probably your best chance to protect your rights.

In Washington state. for instance, a Paternity Affidavit signed by a minor is valid. Minors who sign the Paternity Affidavit will be held to the same standard as adults. So if you live there and signed, your father could not do this to you. But most states require your parents and you to acknowledge the obligation to provide child support and I assume they did not do this.

It also makes a difference if you were on the birth certificate of the child at least in Ohio.

I note that you have some advice to run away. I advise you not to do that. It will complicate this further.

It would also be good to contact a local attorney. They might give you free advice on your state laws or direct you to a place where you can get some. They probably can't charge you for a consultation.

Here is some advice that I think you will find useful. Write out 5 things you do that contribute to the support of this child's overall health and well being. Monetary and emotional things that promote healthy bonding.

Next compose a letter to your parents. Explain your desires to take on some responsibilities, detail your actions thus far. Admit to some mistakes you have made. Asking them for forgives releases you from guilt, regardless of how they respond to your letter. Also include your future desires that benefit the child. Take your time and organize your thoughts on paper. Mention 5 things you would like from your parents. If you fear for your safety get out now. MAYBE CALL.... 911

Now here is what I'm attempting to express to you. You come first, not your child. If you are to step up and take on manhood you must do things that enhance you as a man. Loving, nurturing, honest and hard working are characteristic's I believe you posses. By loving yourself and respecting yourself all who are under your umbrella benefit. As a single dad I do my best for me. The result is my son gets my best. My son is the beneficiary of my hard work. To think or say that he comes first is putting the cart before the horse. My son gets one on one time with me in the park, museum, sporting event, church, board games, homework, school participation, etc. Do your best first and your baby will inherit it in life, not at your death.

It sounds as though you are a minor with a minor. Remember, what decision you make will impact your umbrella and all those who are under it. Your youthful actions will now take on adult action and consequences. You might want to speak with a guidance person at school who can then point you in the direction of a child advocate. An advocate can pilot you covering all legalities in your state. And ultimately providing the things YOU NEED. Residence outside of the home, paternity test, employment, and lets not forget individual, and family counseling all the way around.
