10% of 40 is 4, so 5% of 40 is half that, which is 2!

There are several ways to do this.
You might take ten percent of 40 which is 4 and then half of 4 is the answer.
Or you can multiply 40 times 0.05. Note that to get from a percent to a decimal you move the decimal point two places to the left.
