The "Check" icon on my '99 Mazda Protege dashboard is lit, and checking the fuse is one of the things the manual suggests. I can't find the fuse box. The manual says it's on the driver's side, and the diagram seems to show it below the steering wheel, but there's nothing there.

The fuse box is hidden in a plastic panel. Open the drivers door and using the manual find the suggested localtion. Look for a plastic panel outline with either an indent for your fingers or a small release tab.
