Do American Alligators adapt to their enviorment?

I have a baby alligator living in a 55 gallon fish tank. I'm afraid he wont fit there forever.

Being that a 55 gal tank usually is 4 feet long you are probably correct. He would be able to climb out of there way before he got too big though.
