No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

There's no law that prevents a previous two-term President from becoming Vice-President. If the President were to die in office, he could become President again.
But he couldn't be elected again.

God forbid!

While the 25th Amendment does not appear to deal with this issue specifically it would seem that a challenge to such a candidacy would succeed as the VP could not serve as President in the event the elected President dies in office. It is also extremely unlikely either party would allow such a candidate.

The key word is the elected. One cannot be elected to president more than 2 terms. Vice-president after being president has the majority ruling of being legit. however, if he were to become president following the real president's death is really a toss-up. some argue that he is indirectly elected to office which is forbidden, others say the it has to be direct to be in violation.

in all honesty, we have thousands of people who dedicate their lives to studying the constitution and its amendments, but we really want to avoid the situation as a whole. there is no clear-cut answer and with the disagreements on the subject in Washington, it is best to just ignore it for the moment. The way the constitution worked for this long is the many different ways to read it, but that is were the problem lies here. see it?
