My grandfather 78 has had a lung removed very recently and now he has cancer closing in on his spine. His wife of seven years will not leave his side and tries to be so strong! My grandfather stood by her when she had breast cancer in their second year of marriage, His wife is handling it so well, I have only met her once and she loves me and I love her for taking such good care of him. I am so happy he found true love even though it was so late in life.

I know I'd be able to handle it in front of them, but I would probably cry when I was alone. I tend to be "a rock" to others around me...

I will be honest. I did not handle blindness well.
Usually I handle illness just fine. I would be able to handle spouse illness just fine no matter the situation.
This can be s serious problem. Here is my very unscientific observation. Lets say you have a lifelong spouse and they become ill. Usually they take care of each other until both become incapacitated.
But suppose that spouse dies and then they remarry and that spouse becomes...

I've only been with backhoe guy a few years, but he has to have two surgeries - he has carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands! We don't live together, but he's going to be staying with me during the recovery phase! I know he'd do the same for me in a heartbeat! Ah! So sweet!

When a loved one is ill or dying then your strenght just comes out from within. This happened with my mother when i was young and i didn't go into shock or grieve until after she had passed. When my hubby had a major operation and needed 24hr care for a year i just did it. I don't know how but it all comes from within. It's a strenght that we don't know we have until we need it.

I have often questioned if it were her spouce could she do the same for him... my answer would be no. i think it is up to the committment and devotion between the two to begin with... there would have to be a d...

When my husband diagnosed of terminal cancer, everything was dark but you are one, what he feels is what you feel. The pains that he suffered is a pain that you feel yourself. A feeling that you will be the first who will die before him. When he died half of my body died with him....
