Boat Question
Asked by: otter93 from -
Two boaters start across a calm body of water from opposite shores, traveling at constant (but perhaps different) speeds. They first meet 700 meters from one shore. They continue on their respective paths, reach the opposing shores, then begin the trip back to the shore from which they began. This time they meet 300 meters from the "other" shore. How wide is the river?
Additional Details added (09/26/08):
There is a simple, logical solution and a complex, mathematical solution. I can find the math one online, but I need the logical solution.
