How does HDTV power consumption compare to standard television?

I have ben told that HDTV uses a lot more power than a standard tube type.

when hdtvs first came out, they were power hoarders, especilly plasmas, they used SO mmuch power, now days with newer and advanced HDs, they use less than standard tube type, because they are more effeciant. A DLP (digital light projection) HDTV for example works with mirrors and a small display inside the t.v, opposed to powering an entire picture tube.
