If you don't get this paid off right away, you could end up never paying it off, with the accumulated interest.

As for denying you access to the children, you could sue the boyfriend as an accomplice in a crime. If you have clear evidence that the children were being molested, and a social worker knew, you could sue that person, also. Any money would go to the arrearage. For now, get the amount paid off, before you get even farther behind.

I assume you are saying that Arizona didn't pass along money to California that you paid. Unfortunately, when a state does that, there is nothing you can do about. You end up just repaying the amount again. States collect billions of dollars that they never pass along to the state demanding the child support. It does not happen in a majority of the cases, but there are no laws protecting obligors when a state does screw up.

Since your ex-wife was collecting public assistance benefits, the State was supporting your children while you weren't (through child support payments). The back child support would not be paid to the children, in any event. It will ONLY go to pay back the State, and they will not consider the debt resolved until it has been paid back, in full. The fact that your ex-wife died has nothing to do with clearing the debt with the State.

Although the situation you have described sounds tragic, even if your ex-wife was "hiding the children from you", you still had an obligation to pay child support. Since you didn't pay it, your ex-wife was forced to collect public assistance benefits to pick up the slack.

The State wants their money back, and will pursue collection efforts to the fullest extent of the law. You will have your driver's license suspended, your income tax refund seized, and eventually, be charged with contempt of court (for disobeying the court order to pay support).

Sorry, but I went through this with my ex. I can tell you that the State does not forgive these kinds of debts. Call them and set up a repayment agreement, and stick to it. They will not go away.

Yes unless your child died too. I would imagine that the money would go into a trust fund for your child. You are supporting your child!
