Without legal action, what can I do to make a flooring company complete repairs?
Asked by: cjpaul55 from -
I had new hardwood and ceramic floors installed 11 months ago. The work was done poorly with uneven tiles (they didn't use a leveling compound), defective pieces of wood, shallow grout lines to the point where the sides of tile pieces are exposed in several locations, creating a trip hazard . . . the list goes on and on. Every conversation is an argument and they've agreed to make only a couple of repairs. While making the most recent repair to the hardwood, they damaged 3 more pieces of wood. They are careless and try to get the work done as quickly as possible because I've already paid them and they have no incentive to do the work well. The installer is also the owner of the company, so there is virtually no one to appeal to. I want to avoid legal action if at all possible. Is there any recourse that I have to bring pressure to bear on this company to repair my floors properly?

Contact them and let them know you're going to contact television news channels, you'll start a letter-writing campaign to local newspapers, you'll picket their place of business, you'll file a complaint with the BBB, you'll start an email chain with all of your friends describing their shoddy business practices. Take digital photos of the work and post them online, and send them the link.

If he is a licensed contractor you can go to the state Contractors License board and they will jack you around for a year, take his side because he pays them for his license. Then you can sue him in the Court of Small Claims. You will win as long as you not in California where all judges side with women and laborers because they all vote, are many and you are one. Licensed contractors get away with a lot, but sometimes you can prevail and get their bond, but it is an uphill fight given the "political correctness&qu...
