oil weights

If I mix a 30 weight non detergent with a10 weight non detergent motor oil
will I then have a 20 weight motor oil?
Additional Details added (08/25/08):
This is not for A gas engine It is for an old hydraulic pump attached to the pto of an old tractor. the recommend oil is 20wt. non detergent. I cannot find it in the area that I live.thanks.

Not exactly. What you will have is a mixture of two different viscosity's, but not an exact median of the two. It's all dependent on how the oil was refined. The lighter oil will not be as effective when the cars engine heats up and may result in a lack of lubrication when it needs it most.

Granted this really only makes a difference when you go to temperature extremes so in normal weather it should not make that much of a difference.

You should use the recommended oil all engines run on different grades of oils if you do not use the right oil you will be in the schit with a blown motor.
