Do I have to give my version of events after a minor trafic accident?
Asked by: damage33 from -
A cycalist cut in front of me and stoped suddenly, my vehicle bend his rear rim, the guy then refused to either take my details or give me his, he then left the sean, I was advised the only thing I need to tell the police is my name, address, and to produce my licence if requested, responding to any further questions with the frase " I do not wish to say anything else at this stage "
The police then told me I must provide them with my version of events, to which I responded I would seak further legal advice on monday and get back to them. They were not happy and came to my door on saturday night and bashed on it for 20 minuts anouncing the presance at a high volume disturbing my neighbours.
Q - Do I have to return there calls and do I have to give them a statement and if so can it be a writen statment

If you were not responsible for this accident, then go the the police station and give them your version of events. They will write up your statement. Then that will probably be the end of it. Avoiding the police makes you look guilty!
