is the olympics really about bringing countries together in peace and harmony to have fun and games. I perceive much international rivalry and bitterness.

You are perceptive. It is better to have a rivalry in sport than in other ways. The Olympics does some good. It can't be expected to solve everything.

I agree! The rivalry is such that it promotes an unhealthy competitive spirit which causes animosity between rivals rather than a spirit of international community!
