TAKING A COMPLETE JOB ORDER
The information on the Job Order is vital. Ensure you obtain all the necessary information. Be sure to get the complete name and correct spelling of the person calling and the name a title of the ultimate decision maker. (It helps to call that person by name frequently during the conversation.) Also, verify the spelling of the company’s name. Verify the client’s telephone number and address. Determine the start date of the assignment, the number of associates needed, the length of the assignment, special billing instructions, and so forth. The following steps will help you take a complete job order, whether the company needs temporary support or wants to hire a person:
1. Handle the Job Lead
2. Detail the Need
3. Understand and Agree on the Deal
HANDLE THE JOB LEAD (qualifying the job order)
There is a difference between a job lead and job order. A job lead occurs when a customer or prospect tells us that they need to hire someone or need a temporary associate. To determine if the job lead is bona fide, you must qualify the job lead by asking for the following information:
What kind of person are you needing . . .what’s the job title?
(Is it the kind of position we help companies fill?)
When do you need the person to start?
(What is the urgency of the need? Don’t accept ASAP. Find out when they visualize the person starting.)
What’s the reason for the need? Help me understand your situation.
(Learn more about the scenario you may be stepping into. This may shed additional light on the level of urgency and sometimes on factors that may impede your ability to fill the need.)
What else have you done to fill the need?
(Who are you competing against, which may include other services, or the prospective client, who is often the toughest competitor, or both.)
