SLANDER and THEFT MADE BY NEIGHBOR AGAINST MY FAMILY
|
A.) We live in a small subdivision with less than 50 houses. One of my neighbor always manages to say something bad to my new maid against us such as: 1. I feed spoiled food to maid; 2. I do not feed the maid well; 3. I overwork the maid till 1am; 4. I prohibit the maid to talk to other neighbors.
B.) The same neighbor was in connivance with my previous maid who stole a bag of personal belongings such as vitamin capsules, towels, food and other clothings. My previous maid asked the help of my neighbor to safe keep the bag of items mentioned, and later after a week was scheduled for pick up by someone else. This was the second time that my maid did this, however my neighbor refused to cooperate the first time because of fear of conniving and being caught. Since the second attempt was entertained by my neighbor, my maid succeeded in taking the mentioned items without our knowledge.
C.)The same neighbor also manages to speak to my maid of defamatory statements against other neighbors regarding very personal affairs of specific home owners within the subdivision.
The current maid I have now has worked for us for several years in the past but left and got married. Now that she wants to support her husband financially, she has decided to come back and work for my family. Since my maid was bothered with the defamatory statements mentioned in item A, my maid decided to tell me everything that the neighbor said against us. My maid also added that our neighbor is the main reason why most of my new maids do not stay long working for us because she brainwashes the new maids I have as early as the first week of their work. That her defamatory statements are very demotivating and discouraging to a new comer and as such will not exert effort to work well and later just leave or made to leave because of poor work performance.
I would like to sue the neighbor for ruining my family's reputation and for conniving in the theft committed by my previous maid. What am I going

If you have proof of the theft, you can report it to the police. If they think there is enough evidence, they will refer it to the district attorney and they can file charges.
You can sue for slander, but to win you have to have financial damages. The damages are the training of new maids. So a lawsuit would be a big financial loser for you. On the other hand it might be a big financial loss also to your neighbor. So that is something to think about.
