can parents of virginia residents take control of finances and property of their adult child if they are hospitalized and temporarily incapacitated?

They would need a power of attorney or a court order of guardianship to do this. Which you use depends on how incapacitated the person is.
It is not that hard to set this up. It is best to get a lawyer to do it.

I am not a lawyer and good for me for that. I have had some college law.

You would have to go through the court system and have the adult child declared incompetent, with documented medical proof! If the incapacitation is temporary, this would be impossible to do. If this child has a living will, and has named a power of attorney, then the person named can legally take care of finances and property, until the adult child is well enough to do this on their own!

Consult an attorney to go to court to declare adult child incmpetent til the adultchild seeks professional help so parents can help with adult child's business til child is well enough to be on own.
