it's really hard to admit when you are wrong and I have had to eat a littl crow before. It really sucks but I've done it. I have a stepson and it's been a learning experience dealing with a "blended" family. There are rights and wrongs and power plays and all that in the early years..... and yes.... there are the times that in looking back that I had to admit that i was wwwwwwwwrong.

I have never been a bragger. I learned this a very long time ago in High School. So, if I win or if I am right I have learned that it's best to be humble. While on vacation I caught the biggest fish.... but I kept my mouth shut.... silence is deadly. :-)

And they will do it in the best possible light. At least that is what I was taught. I haven't had to put it to the test.

I've found, that admitting when you've been wrong, even to very young children, instead of undermining their faith in you, has for me had the opposite effect. In our family, one of the highest values I've tried to impart to my sons, is the value of your word. To give your word really means something to me, and I want it to mean the same to my boys. This means taking them aside and explaining, when you have been wrong about something: been unfair, perhaps you misunderstood the situation, had your facts wrong, or just, on further thought, realised what you did or said was not okay.

I've learnt to humble myself and tell the boys when I've been wrong, and ask for their forgiveness and understanding. It isn't easy, especially because they learn to question you. But if you want to give the example of honour, and honesty, I find it necessary. Some parents I know would never apologise to a child, never ask their forgiveness or admit being in the wrong. They think it confuses the child, and lessens their authority.

But children are very observant. They see much more than we realise. My kids complain that they are always being told to show respect, but very rarely GET respect from adults. They learn hypocrisy, by watching and copying us, and also by having to pretend respect where they don't feel it.

I know my boys respect me more because they know I WILL admit to being wrong. And here is my real reward, something I overheard between them a few months ago:

Number 2 Son: "Here's your car. I know I said I didn't have it, but I was lying. Sorry."
Number 1 Son: "That's okay. Thanks, and good boy for telling the truth in the end."

They didn't know I was listening.

Moments like these are like...getting a parenting badge! To think after all that hard work, that your kids have really learnt something from you, that they really are beginning to live by values, and not just convenience and immediate gratification.

So yes, I'll admit to being wrong. The reward is that people trust your word, and that's worth more than riches.

You probably end up frustrated and ruin the whole day. If you are right, fine. We don't know everything. When we know something and we know is right share with other people, but if you are not sure search for more information and go from there. gigia

Yes, now that I remember, once I was aguing with a friend and he was right, then I told him " sorry you were right."

But in other cases, instead of argue we should find out the fact. My sister likes to argue because I was telling something and he jump and said, no that no true and asked her did you read this newspaper? she kept quiet, but I end up so mad than when she argue, I walk away. Ga
